Prisoner Control, Search and Transportation Techniques

Course Objectives:
The class is designed for officers who transport prisoners in custody or new arrestees. Street officers, correctional officers, probation officers and court officers required to move prisoners from one location to another will benefit greatly from this programs. Officers will be provided with information concerning all aspects of transportation from restraints to legal issues. Transporting suspects may be the most dangerous thing an officer does and all too often it is done with minimal resources. The danger to officers, civilians and the suspect themselves is great. This class will offer solutions to the most hazardous situations. Officers will also be given the material to allow them to meet FAA/TSA regulations for law enforcement flying while armed.
Upon Completion:
Students will be provided the knowledge
and skills to:
- Carry a Firearm Onboard Aircraft (Certification in Compliance with FAA/TSA Regulations)
- List Six Types of Common Restraints
- Identify Tools and Procedures for Defeating Restraining Devices
- Demonstrate the Most Effective Placement of Restraining Devices
- Perform Pre-Transport Search
- Complete Transport Checklist
- Demonstrate Vehicle Seating of Suspect for Maximum Officer Safety
- Use Indirect Lighting to Enhance Officer Safety
- Establish/Plan Routes for Transportation
- Complete a Plan for Escorting Outside the Vehicle
- List at Least Four Elements Outside the Officer’s Control and How to Deal With Them
- Identify Areas of Civil Liability Prior, During and After the Transport
- Identify and Comply With Requirements For Out of State Transports
- Describe the Difference Between New Arrest and Custodial Transport
- Develop, Interpret and Comply With Agency Transport Regulations
- List/Recognize the Fatal Danger Signs During Transport
