Instructor Bio
Floyd Petersoncurrently serves as Indianapolis Public Schools Police Dept. Director of Police Tactical Training. Floyd previously held the position of Director of Tactical Training and Technology for Marian University Police Department. As a University Campus Police Officer he assists local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies in areas such as active shooter, restorative justice, school safety, police survival tactics, physical tactics and verbal judo. He has served as the project manager for the development of regional response plans, and other efforts aimed at enhancing an agency’s overall investigative response to violent crime incidents, missing, abducted and exploited children incidents, as well as juvenile crime, bullying and reducing underage drinking. He is now a national lecturer on Juvenile Behavior and School Violence Assessments and has conducted research in the areas of social emotional intelligence of adolescents and adverse childhood experiences. He is the recipient of numerous awards for his support and expertise in anti-bullying, adolescent crime, child exploitation investigations and safe passages and teen suicide prevention and intervention training in the City of Indianapolis, IN. He is the former 2nd Vice-President of the Indiana Association of School Resource Officers, and a founder member of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Associates. |

Objectives
Banish Bullying Behavior
An invaluable presentation with straightforward and well researched strategies to help bring to light the real issues kids face today and provides specific advice to all stakeholders to help banish bullying behavior. This presentation will describe those practices that will create positive change and suggest practical strategies to make school a safe and comfortable place for learning. How to transform the culture of pain, rage and revenge into a culture of respect.
Suicide Intervention and Prevention
In the U.S., the suicide rates are the highest ever. Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death for 15 to 24-year-old. In our discussion we will use the most current data available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the QPR suicide Prevention gatekeeper training to gain the skills to effectively intervenes in situations where warning signs and behaviors alert us to a youth, co-worker or family member in crisis, in action or thoughts of suicide.
Individual Level Strategies
Youth's experiences, knowledge, and skills can influence their likelihood of becoming involved in violence. Strengthening young people's abilities to effectively solve difficulties that arise and their opportunities to participate in prosocial activities like restorative justice reduce the risk for violence.
Relationship Level Strategies
Positive relationships between students and their prosocial peers, teachers, and families can be critical assets in promoting youth’s well-being and preventing school violence.
Community Level Strategies
The social environment, the climate and culture of schools can influence the likelihood of violence. The numerous steps Schools can take to improve school connectedness in order to promote learning and to reduce negative outcomes, such as violence
The Principles of Verbal De-escalation and Influence
This presentation will provide the participant with the tools to reduce student, staff and law enforcement assaults and injuries, while generating volunteer compliance and cooperation.

Creating a warm and welcoming environment, fostering a sense of physical and social order. Creating a sense of ownership by students, sending positive messages to students, maximizing the presence of authority figures, minimizing opportunities for out-of-sight activities. Managing access to all school areas.
