Steve Riggs has twenty-two years of Law Enforcement, and Fire Service Experience
in Oklahoma. Mr. Riggs has extensive training in Fire Cause Determination,
Criminal Investigation, Arson Investigation, Evidence Processing, Interviewing
Techniques, and Case Management. He is both a certified Police and Fire Instructor.
Mr. Riggs has successfully been involved in many Arson Prosecutions in Oklahoma,
and assisted with Federal Prosecution. To date, he has never lost an arson
case. Steve has authored two fire science training books ARSON CASE MANAGEMENT,
ARSON SCENE SEARCH AND EVIDENCE RECOVERY as well as co-authored PRACTICAL
ASPECTS OF ELECTRICAL FIRE INVESTIGATIONS. Steve lectures throughout the
United States for local, state, federal agencies and insurance investigators.
Steve currently serves on the Hamilton County Fire Investigators Task Force.

This 2.5 day training module will provide the fire/arson investigator with the practical and technical skills necessary to investigate and determine the origin and cause of vehicle fires.
This training module will provide both classroom and hands-on training with practical exercises on how to conduct a systematic, thorough, and scientific examination of the vehicle.
Attendees will be provided the necessary knowledge of vehicle design, electrical systems, fuel systems, and their components that will be encountered in a motor vehicle, including alternative fuels. We will examine how these components can fail or cause fires.
Upon Successful Completion:
Attendees will have been provided the necessary skills and knowledge to:
- Demonstrate the proper systematic approach for investigatingvehicle fires;
- Understand vehicle design and electrical systems;
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of wiring used in motor vehicles and the presence of electrical activity on those wires;
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of safety devices (fuses, breakers and fusible links or cartridges);
- Demonstrate the knowledge on how to properly document the vehicle fire;
- Demonstrate the knowledge to photographing the vehicle fire scene in a systematic manner;
- Demonstrate the knowledge of collecting evidence from the vehicle fire scene;
- Demonstrate the knowledge in accordance with National Fire Protection Association 921 Guide for Fire and Explosion Investigation 2008 edition and 1033 Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigators;
- Demonstrate knowledge of how to obtain recall, technical service bulletin Information, consumer complaint Information and general research Information regarding vehicle fire investigation;
- Attendees will learn the proper techniques for documenting, photographing, evidence collection and preservation including preparing a proper written report;
- An in-depth CD with valuable detailed information will be supplied.
- This training module is presented in a very user friendly and easy to understand method of instruction. You will be able to put into immediate practice the skills you learn in this training.
- For I.A.A.I. Certified Fire Investigators or those considering challenging the CFI test, testing will be provided at the end of the seminar and will be worth 6 points.
- This training module will utilize both classroom and hands-on practical exercises to maximize learning.
- For the practical exercises, we will provide the evidence collection containers, evidence tape, digital cameras, gloves and any necessary equipment to conduct a practical vehicle examination. This exercise may require some vehicle reconstruction.
- We recommend you bring a helmet or hardhat, coveralls, boots, etc.
