Instructor Bio

Kedrick Wills
Lt. Colonel Wills currently serves as the Deputy Director of the Idaho State Police (ISP), a statewide, full service law enforcement agency. In this capacity, Lt. Colonel Wills is responsible for the operations of all functions of the agency. He was appointed to this position in April, 2013. Prior to his current position, Lt. Colonel Wills worked his way through the ranks in ISP and has served in every rank, from Trooper to his current assignment as Lt. Colonel. Some of his past assignments have included working in Patrol, Investigations, Forensics, and Executive Protection. Prior to coming to work for ISP, Lt. Colonel Wills worked for the Nampa Police Department as a Spanish bilingual police officer. Lt. Colonel Wills holds an Associate of Arts Degree from the College of Southern Idaho, a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master of Training and Development Degree, both from Idaho State University. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session #232 as well as the Naval Post Graduate School Center for Homeland Defense and Security Executive Leaders Program. Lt. Colonel Wills also is an adjunct instructor for Idaho State University in the areas of leadership and organizational culture.

Course Objectives

This course is designed to provide a forum for discussion of leadership principles and how organizational culture relates to the success of the organization. The course also provides concepts to enhance leadership effectiveness and lead organizational change at the personal and cultural levels.

At the conclusion of this course, the participant should be able to do the following:

  • Explain the value of leadership and the important role each person plays in the overall leadership and success of the organization.
  • Explain the definition of organizational culture and the role this plays in organizational effectiveness.
  • Examine organizational artifacts and how they relate to the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
  • Learn to understand perceptions and how perceptions shape our perceived reality and have the potential to harm the organization if not recognized.
  • Understand and explain group relationships including boundaries, structure, and group identity.
  • Explain the importance of organizational ethics and the obligation of each employee to model the espoused ethics of the group.
  • Be able to set personal goals that fit within the framework of the organizational mission, vision, and values and assist subordinates in doing the same.
