OFFICER PERFORMANCE EVALUATIONS

Diligently and accurately documenting employee performance is possibly the single most effective way that a supervisor can ensure that decisions pertaining to promotions, discipline and termination are legally defensible.  Federal and state anti-discrimination statutes require that employees be treated equally based on their job performance, rather than prohibited factors such as race, gender or age.  Therefore, it should come as no surprise that performance evaluations often lay the foundation for costly litigation or, conversely, the foundation for legally defensible employment decisions.
