Lieutenant Randy Rider has been employed as a law enforcement officer for 31 years. He currently serves in the capacity of Training Lieutenant for the Douglasville Police Department, Douglasville, Georgia. Lieutenant Rider is the Internal Affairs Officer, and is in charge of the administrative division of the department.
Lieutenant Rider was formerly employed as a Principal Investigator with the Georgia Department of Youth Service. Youth Services is tasked with detention and rehabilitation of the youthful offender. He was directly responsible for the supervision of investigators assigned to the Internal Affairs Unit.
Over the course of his career, he has conducted hundreds of investigations concerning abuse, neglect and use of force by Correctional Officers whom were employed by the Department. Other allegations of misconduct by officers were also investigated. He has investigated numerous cases of inmate on inmate abuse, of which is prevalent in prison/jail settings. This is a rarely reported crime which requires experience in institutional and jail investigations.
Lieutenant Rider served with the Douglas County Sheriff’s office in the 1970’s, and conducted his first Internal Affairs investigation while at the Douglas County Sheriff’s office in 1978.
Lieutenant Rider is a founding member of the Georgia Internal Affairs Association. He has served in the capacity of President, with two terms as Vice President and is the Historian of the organization. Lieutenant Rider was elected President of the National Internal Affairs Investigators Association in May of 2005. He is a certified Senior Instructor in the state of Georgia having taught classes in various Police Academies across the state. He is working on his Master Instructor Certification and holds certifications as a Firearms Instructor, Range Master, CPR Instructor and Field Training Officer.
Lieutenant Rider has given lectures at the University of West Georgia and Chatta-hoochee Technical College on Internal Affairs. He is currently pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice at Mercer University.
