Michael Savallo was a member of the New York City Police Department for twenty years. He was appointed to the NYPD in July 1986. He was transferred to the Organized Crime Control Bureau Brooklyn South Tactical Narcotics Task Force in September 1989, where he performed duties as an undercover officer and participated in numerous mid- to high-level narcotics and firearms investigations. In January 1991 he was promoted to the rank of Detective Third Grade, and in September 1992 he was assigned to the Organized Crime Control Bureau Auto Crime Division, where he was assigned to investigate organized crime activities, including his participation as a member of the Federal Carjacking Task Force. In 1996 Michael was assigned as the lead instructor in the Auto Crime Division School, where he was responsible for the delivery of training to in excess of ten thousand (10,000) members of the New York City Police Department, as well as to members of local, regional, and federal law enforcement agencies. In March 2002, he was transferred to the Counter Terrorism Division and assigned to the Regional Training Center. Michael is qualified as an expert witness on auto theft activities and fraudulent documents. In addition to providing training for the New York City Police Department, Michael is also a trainer for the New York Prosecutors’ Training Institute, the New York Anti-Car Theft Association, the International Association of Auto Theft Investigators, and the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. Michael received his undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice from St. John’s University and his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from C.W. Post, and is currently an associate professor at Farmingdale Community College.
Michael is currently working as a contractor for US Department of Homeland Security’s Center for Domestic Preparedness, Louisiana State University and AAMVA.
