Eric Vandenburg was a member of the NYC Police Department for twenty years. He was appointed to the New York City Transit Police Department in January, 1986. He was promoted to Field Training Officer in May 1990. In July 1992, Eric was assigned as an Instructor in the New York City Police Academy. He was assigned to Queens Warrant Squad in April 1996. In July 1996, Eric was named as Curriculum Coordinator/Developer in the New York City Police Academy Recruit Training.
Eric has provided training to in excess of 8,000 entry-level recruit police officers, Traffic agents, School Safety Agents and Police Administrative Aides. He was integral in the development of “Eyes & Ears Training” for New York City Traffic Agents. He developed the New York Police Department’s Subway Track Safety Training Manual and program.
Eric has testified as an expert witness in New York County in police rules, regulations and procedures. He authored the New York Police Department’s Police Student Guide and over 180 Instructor Lesson Plans for Recruit Entry Level Training in Police Science for the Police Academy. He created the Police Department’s Domestic Preparedness Activity Log inserts issued to all uniformed members of the department. He has provided training to US Army National Guard Reservists on Domestic Preparedness. In December 2001, Eric was promoted to the rank of Detective Third Grade and assigned to the Counter Terrorism Division in February 2002 at its inception.
Eric has been integral in the development of the Counter Terrorism training. Training developed by Eric in the field of counter terrorism has been recognized nation wide by law enforcement agencies. He has assisted in the development of the Weapons of Mass Destruction Incident Complexities Course (Law Enforcement Protective Measures) for the New York City Police Department in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Domestic Preparedness. Eric has delivered training to members of the Department, as well as to local and regional law enforcement agencies and members of both the business and residential communities. Eric has been a featured lecturer for NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services on Domestic and International Terrorist Groups, Terrorist Funding. Eric was temporarily assigned to Special Projects Unit for preparation of training for the 2004 Republican National Convention in New York City. Eric was certified as a Hazardous Materials Technician in August 2004. Eric is currently working as a contractor for US Department of Homeland Security’s Center for Domestic Preparedness.
