Registration has nothing to do with stopping
future or present predators
The
most serious sex offenders will repeat offend. The registration only
makes it easier for the informed person to take actions to prevent
their loved ones from becoming a victim.

Sample answers included:
The idea behind registration is to deter
future offenders but to protect the public from KNOWN offenders
Sex
offenders suffer from a sickness that can only be prevented thru
isolated confinement.
The "drive" to offend will eventually
take over in most offenders and they will do it again. Registration
may only cause them
to be more cautious about where they offend.
Registration will not
stop a future offender but it will help educate the public as to
who and what is living in their neighborhood and hopefully
reduce the number of victims available to the predator.
This is an
illness that can not be cured. I don't think the registration will
stop them from reoffending but it will at least provide the interested
public with information about where they are claiming to live. This
is important when deciding where to purchase a house or raise your
kids. If nothing else it will create a perception to them that someone
is watching them and give the interested public the perception that
someone is watching the sex offenders.
Many of the people I see during
registration have never been taught about actions causing reactions
and/or consequences.
because as law enforcement professionals
know, most victims know their offenders so it can happen right in the
home.
it won't stop their criminal behavior,
only provide a tool for potential victims to be better aware.
The act
of completing a document will not impede the impulse to violate
The
majority of the population still see a sex offender as a stranger.
Statistics show the majority of sex offenders knew their victim eg.
a relative, a stepchild, a grandchild, a neighbor etc. Even when
an individual is a registered sex offender, the peolpe who "know'
him don't beleive the offendrer committed the crime or if he did
would not commit a future crime and therefore allow the offender around
new
potential victims.
Registration is a community and law enforcement
tool for tracking. Sex Offedners cannot be cured, therefore registration
is not a deterrent.
The registry is full of sex offenders and
more names are being added to it almost every day. This goes to show
that
it is not having any
effect on stopping future sex offenders.
Registration probably won't
stop sex offenders, but it will deter them and it will help lawenforcement
track them and will give the public
knowledge of the perverts.
It's better than nothing. Only keeping
them in prison will stop many of the offenders.
The registration of
sex offenders will not stop them from committing future crimes, but
it will aid in the investigation of the crimes by
providing possible suspects.
