CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS
(Managing Criminal Investigations)

Law Enforcement Training: Managing Criminal Investigations

This advanced course is designed to assist anyone that needs to manage criminal investigations. In order for any criminal investigation to be successful, the case must be organized and presented as a successful prosecution. Investigative supervisors often have a myriad of cases to review, categorize, assign, and monitor at any given time. Investigators must know how to put their cases together, which cases to follow up, which leads to follow, and how to present their cases to the prosecutor. Often in smaller agencies, officers or supervisors will be assigned to work the criminal investigations. They too, need to know which direction to take. Missed leads, duplicated services and mismanaged information can all tend to weaken the credibility of a case. Managing Criminal Investigations will provide direction in all of these areas.

PRIMARY TOPICS INCLUDE::

  • Conducting a Criminal Case Analysis from an Incident Report
  • Determining a Hierarchy in Supplemental Investigation

THE ECONOMY AND POTENTIAL UNEXPECTED EMPLOYEE ISSUES      The current economic downturn has seriously hurt local communities.  This loss of revenue has direct consequences for local law enforcement agencies.  One of the unexpected consequences is the potential for some police employees to find themselves in financial difficulty.  This is most pronounced when the employee has been counting on income other than normal salary.  Police agencies should assess their policies, look for ways to assist employees who experience severe difficulty, and be alert to possible misconduct.      Continue Article >>

LAW ENFORCEMENT COMPUTER FORENSICS QUESTION:

Windows Media Encoder Pagefile.sys Date/Time:

I have a pagefile.sys which has entries from a windows media encoder session that was up and running when I pulled the laptop battery.

I was able to view the wme tabs while the laptop was running and see the date/time, ip address, and connected/disconnect.
When I found the ip address in the pagefile.sys I can see the pattern where there appears to be a date/time in hex right before each ip address. I have tried using dcode and dump different strings into it. I can not seem to figure out how the date/time is being stored.

Have you all had any experience with this? If not Do you know anyone that has? Would you like to see the strings? VIEW / RESPOND HERE
