The Pony Express route included over 150 relay stations spanning present-day states of Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Nevada and California. Riders were swapped every 75 to 100 miles, and horses swapped out every 10 to 15 miles - "Buffalo Bill" Cody signed on with the Pony Express at age 15. (Source)
