Course Overview:

Upon completion of this seminar the attendee will have gained the interview and interrogation techniques and steps for a complete criminal investigation from taking the report to getting the confession that will withstand a court challenge.

Planning for any interview: This session will get the student to prepare for an interview and know the difference between interview and interrogation.

Steps to take before the interrogation: Check background of the case, physical evidence present or not present, M.O Etc., background on the suspect, the proper way to enter the interrogation room, seating positions to the door, what to say and what not to say.

Truthful and deceptive responses: It is very important to know if the person we are talking to is lying to us and why. The student will be shown how to watch for body language and how a person answers important questions.

Important rules to follow during an interrogation and preparing for court: The student will be taught how to maintain a record of the interrogation for court. How to take notes. How to set up the right atmosphere and our choice of words we use to win people over and make it easier for them to confess.

Confronting the suspect: How to do a proper introduction and how to build rapport.

Miranda: When and how to Mirandize a suspect.

Denials, negative responses, lies (All the same): Learn to expect lies from almost everyone.

Objections from the suspects: Suspect will give 2 types of objections: (1) A vague objection...I am a good Christian or I wasn't brought up that way. (2) An alibi objection... I was at home or at a movie; Learn how to handle both.

Giving the suspect an out: Make it easier to confess; learn about human nature; understand why people do not want to admit they did anything wrong; how they will blame their crime on someone else or something else.
