Forensic Fire Scene Investigation

Course Overview:

Forensic investigations are conducted to protect and preserve evidence at a crime /fire scene.

This course will cover state of the art investigative tools, chemicals and techniques used at scenes today. Upon completion of this course the student will have the necessary tools and skills to apply them to future cases.

The student will understand the systematic approach and scientific methods used as to correctly apply them to the case.

The student will be able to photograph the scene in a systematic manner for those cases that require court room presentation.

The student will understand the systematic methods used for removal of fire debris and evidence from a scene, as well as identifying, collecting and preserving the evidence recovered.

The student will understand the importance of using a chain of custody for evidence and how it can potentially affect the case.

The student will understand collection of DNA ,fingerprints and tool mark evidence as well as how to properly preserve each of these evidentiary items.

The student will see the importance of the use of alternate light sources to locate trace evidence from a scene that may be otherwise overlooked.

The student will be able to understand the use of forensic botany and how it can help in identifying potential evidence in relation to the removal of a body or other physical evidence.

At the end of training module; the student will be able to successfully work an investigation using systematic approach of the scene. The student will be able to identify, preserve and collect many types of potential evidence using the methods discussed in the course.

Case studies will be reviewed to help attendees more clearly understand the methods applied in this course of instruction.

NOTE: Portions of this class include hands-on activities which the attendees will be able to experience a first hand opportunity to collect different evidentiary items.
