Course Overview:
Introduction To Explosives and Their Hazards: This
session will identify the difference between high and low
explosives and their chemical components. The students will
learn the hazards associated with explosives and how to
investigate properly.
Explosive Material:
The student will gain an understanding of the commercial
explosives, military explosives, and explosive powders.
They will study the theory of explosives and how this information
can assist in their investigations.
Improvised Explosive
Devices (IED): This session will introduce the student
to the various items that are used in the homemade, manufacturing
process.
Introduction To Basic
Electricity: The student will gain insight into how
electricity is used in the manufacturing of explosive devices.
They will also learn how different types of materials are
used for initiation systems when making improvised explosive
devices.
Chemical –
Biological: The student will be introduced to types
of chemical/biological weapons and how they could be deployed.
Crime Scene Management:
The student will learn the proper techniques for processing
an explosive crime scene. They will also learn the proper
procedures for distance – how far a crime scene may
extend.
Hands-On –
Explosive Crime Scene Searching: The students will
actually participate in the processing of a simulated crime
scene where an improvised device has been used. All methods
of classroom instruction will be put to use. At the end
of the exercise the students will be able to present their
theories of what caused the explosion, and what was used
in the manufacturing of the device.
