The prospect of terminating an employee can often mean substantial legal liability challenges for public safety agencies. A failure to properly document the just cause of termination or to provide appropriate due process rights can trigger costly liability. Furthermore, certain actions short of formal termination can actually be viewed as termination under legal review (i.e. constructive discharge).
The purpose of this presentation is to provide the attendee with an understanding of the manner in which officer terminations can trigger liability and the ways in which the careful and deliberate handling of terminations can minimize those risks. The webinar materials will include a sample termination letter for all attendees, along with a copy of the instructor's PowerPoint and video recording.
